Fit Check is a series where host Sarah Wasilak tests fresh activewear from brands while trying out a new fitness class, from the latest Pilates hybrid creation to the hot yoga class everyone is talking about on TikTok. For the latest installment, she reviews Reebok apparel while working out at Legacy Fit Miami.
Admittedly, I don’t cross train enough. As a runner, I know that it’s incredibly important to incorporate some functional strength training into my weekly routine to prevent injury. So when I got the chance to try out a CrossFit-style partner workout in Reebok Nano X5 Training Shoes ($150), I jumped at the opportunity. Luckily, I was among a motivated group of women athletes at a High Performance Lifestyle Training summit, and our circuit was led by CrossFit Games athlete Fee Saghafi — so the excitement in the room was palpable, to say the least.
Legacy Fit, founded by Manning Sumner, is a facility packed with cardio and strength training machines and features a large, open-floor area to tackle HIIT and CrossFit through Partner Interval Training (PIT). The workout itself consists of a 10-minute warmup, which is different every time depending on your trainer, followed by a one-hour rotation between 20 exercise stations with a focus on endurance, cardio, or strength. You and your partner have two minutes to finish each station, switching on and off to achieve your collective goal. While your partner works, you take a rest to catch your breath and cheer them on.
For a CrossFit-style workout where I’ll be doing less consistent running or cardio, I prefer a pair of biker shorts and a matching sports bra. I opted for the Reebok Lux Contour Crop Top ($45) and Reebok Lux Mini Bike Shorts 5″ ($20, originally $40), which were branded with HPLT and Huel logos, since both brands sponsored my trip. I also wore a pair of mid-rise ribbed socks and the aforementioned Nano X5 Trainers, the newest iteration of Reebok’s iconic unisex training sneaker. This combination made for an extremely comfortable workout.
Ahead, you can read my full review of the trainers as well as my Reebok workout apparel and find out how it all held up during the one hour of intensity that Legacy Fit offers.
What I Like About Reebok’s Lux Workout Set
The sleek fit of the Lux Contour Crop Top is undeniable. There’s a supportive contour panel built into the bust, and the fabric is constructed with RBK-DRY, which has sweat-wicking properties that truly did keep me dry throughout my workout. Typically, my sports bra is soaked after an intense workout, but I actually ended up wearing the same one the next day for a short run (yes, even before a wash — sue me!) because it was completely dry when I woke up.
The bike shorts have a high-rise fit and a five-inch inseam, and they’re constructed with odor-eliminating MOTIONFRESH technology, which is perhaps why my clothes didn’t smell at all after I wrapped up at the gym. They also have a side pocket, which is an essential for me in all my workout bottoms so that I can move easily while keeping my phone immediately reachable. Another highlight? This set is made with at least 30 percent recycled or repurposed materials.
What I Like About the Reebok Nano X5
Reebok released the Nano X5 for the 15th anniversary of the supportive training shoe its become known for. The goal was to achieve the most comfortable and stable fit ever with a breathable Flexweave knit upper, dual-density midsole, and firmer foam heel. I especially appreciate the plush collar, which is non-distracting and keeps the foot planted without a rough edge that causes blisters at the ankles. The Metasplit outsole is crafted to enhance movement, which is great for running and jumping.
What to Consider Before Buying the Reebok Nano X5
While these sneakers absolutely kept me grounded during the CrossFit workout, these are shoes I would only wear to strength train. I did try running in them, and I definitely prefer a lighter-weight shoe with a thicker, poppier sole that has some spring to it. These sneakers provide more of a solid foundation than lift for dynamic movement. There’s a major difference between the specs of cross training sneakers and running shoes, so make sure you read up on the details and carefully scour reviews before purchasing.
Where Are the Reebok Nano X5 Available to Shop?
The Reebok Nano X5 are available to shop on the brand’s website, DSW, and Zappos.
