While the Internet is still buzzing about the surprise guest Rihanna revealed during her history-making Super Bowl LVII halftime show, there’s another iconic moment that will continue to live rent-free in my mind: The star’s seamless, mid-performance complexion touch-up.
If you’re wondering which compact Rihanna flawlessly touched up with mid-song, it was none other than the Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder. Makeup artists and Rihanna’s army of fans turned the moment into a meme almost instantly—all but guaranteeing the viral makeup compact sells out.
To make it that much easier to look like Rihanna, her glam team shared the inside scoop on all the products used ahead of her comeback concert to create her firey beauty look—read on for their short list of game day essentials.
Fenty Beauty global makeup artist Priscilla Ono thinly applied layers of the brand’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation, then added a dab of setting powder to for a shine-free complexion. Ono opted for a soft matte finish for the singer’s complexion that, “still looked like skin but was performance-proof too,” she said in a statement.
And to compliment Rihanna’s custom Loewe corset and jumpsuit, Alaïa coat, and fiery MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon sneakers, Ono reached for the brand’s Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick in the shade The MVP. “That red stage called for the ultimate Rihanna red lip,” Ono adds. “We wanted her beauty look to celebrate this moment and be a true reflection of her timeless beauty. And to me, there’s nothing more iconic to Rihanna than her soft matte skin and a bold red lip.”
As for her nails, celebrity artist Kimmie Kyees capped off Rihanna’s monochromatic color moment with a fire-engine red manicure, using CND’s Shellac Polish in Devil Red. “We wanted the nails to pop so we went with CND’s Devil Red, which is the perfect true red that really complements her tone,” Kyees explains. “The longer length square shaped tips also beautifully lengthened her hands while still staying true to the classic look.”
As a Rihanna fan, I’m extremely excited about the revival of her pregnancy outfits, but also waiting with baited breath for the many maternity makeup and nail looks that come with them—starting with this epic and red-hot Super Bowl beat.
