Dôen didn’t invent the sundress, but it’s the first and last place many women buy their favorites. Now, the brand wants its devoted fan base to wear its sundresses as beach cover-ups over its debut swim collection.
Alongside its second capsule of earth-tone dresses and tops with Victoriana flourishes this season, Dôen is releasing its first swimwear line. The ruffled bandeau bikinis and ruched maillots evoke a vintage postcard from a Mediterranean beach town: They’re feminine, romantic, and a little glamorous, without trying too hard. Prices begin at $108 for a bikini top and cap out at $218 for a one-piece, in sizes XS through XXL.

The drop is quintessential Dôen in its tightly edited scope (two one-pieces and three bikinis) and its influences (the floral patterns and shapes nod to ’50s and ’60s sunsuits). “It was essential to design pieces that felt like a natural extension of the brand, pieces that carry a bit of nostalgia, feel timeless, and can be worn with ease,” the brand’s CCO and cofounder, Katherine Kleveland, tells BAZAAR.com.

The nostalgia factor comes from more than those vintage French Riviera references. Dôen selected three prints beloved by its customers to reinterpret into swimwear, including a fan-favorite Liberty floral.
This attention to detail makes a launch Dôen “has been working on for quite some time” even more special, Dôen CEO and cofounder Margaret Kleveland says. “We’ve seen customers ask about swim for seasons now, and we’re excited to offer something that can add to their collection of Dôen pieces.”

More measured expansions into new areas—including bedding and tabletop pieces, and a second swim collection with performance fabrics—are on the horizon. But Dôen isn’t hurrying to dive into everything at all once. “With any new category, our priority is thoughtful design and production, offering exceptional quality,” Dôen’s president, Holly Soroca, says.
