Anchoring the US team was 200m bronze medalist Gabby Thomas, bronze medalist in the 200m alongside Javianne Oliver, Teahna Daniels, and Jenna Prandini. Jamaica fielded a star-studded team that was always going to be tough to catch, as it included the three 100m medalists — Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson — as well as Briana Williams on the first leg. Jamaica maintained a comfortable lead from start to finish, with the US making up ground throughout to secure a comfortable silver.
